This First Friday in September, Lydia will be showing her work alongside six other artists at the Hilliard Gallery. This exhibition is part of the KC+ Connect event series sponsored through KC Studio Magazine.
Lydia DeMonte will be displaying her most recent body of work. What sleeps in the woods is a photographic exploration of natural life cycles through the context of mythologies, utilizing feminine archetypes. The characters are inspired by ancient conceptions of women as agents of both life and death, personifications of eternity. This work responds to humanity’s attempts to control, define, and compartmentalize nature.
In addition to her images, Lydia is also working in collaboration with Cory Hinesley to create a constructed environment to display their work. Drawing inspiration from their respective photographic works, the two artists seek to bring their images to life in the gallery space using sculpture, lighting, and sound.
More information about their production design for the exhibit is included in the IndieGOGO campaign video below.
