Jon was recently hired by Outpost Worldwide to manage their studio and produce creative video content in house. Basically, Outpost has first-look rights on any of his film and video projects.
Outpost is a great ally for our young company. Jon is really excited to be working in studio. We definitely count his new position as a blessing for DeMonte Pictures.
Anything Outpost passes on will still be produced by DeMonte Pictures. Right now we are scheduling a joint casting session as there are multiple projects in development for both companies. Look for the details soon on our new casting page to come.
“The motive behind criticism often determines its validity. Those who care criticize where necessary. Those who envy criticize the moment they think that they have found a weak spot.”
Today Jon finished the 2nd draft of The Kleptocatic Dream as well as mapping out the illustrations. We’re polishing it up for a final draft. Next phase is research and development. The first step, which has already begun, is compiling source images. Simultaneously we will work up story boards based on the source images as well as character and environment profiles.
“Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.”
This First Friday in September, Lydia will be showing her work alongside six other artists at the Hilliard Gallery. This exhibition is part of the KC+ Connect event series sponsored through KC Studio Magazine.
Lydia DeMonte will be displaying her most recent body of work. What sleeps in the woods is a photographic exploration of natural life cycles through the context of mythologies, utilizing feminine archetypes. The characters are inspired by ancient conceptions of women as agents of both life and death, personifications of eternity. This work responds to humanity’s attempts to control, define, and compartmentalize nature.

“Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and the thinkers; but most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself.”
Jon just finished working a pilot summer camp program with the Lyric Opera called S.T.A.G.E.S.. There he, along with other industry professionals, guided a group of high school students through all the aspects of designing and executing a production for the stage. It was his first time working with kids of that age in an educational environment, but he feels it was an overall success. Next year the Lyric plans to expand the program and Jon will be working to help improve it.
You can see some of their progress on Jon’s instagram.
“You always want to tell a story in cuts, through an uninflected image–let the cut tell the story. Because otherwise, you haven’t got dramatic action but narration.”
We’ve decided to get started on the first installment of a transmedia project designed for a child audience.
The project consists of a series of stories that will translate into multiple forms of media: storybook, animation, audio, mobile game, and various products. All of the stories in the series have been roughed in. The first we’ve decided to finalize is called The Kleptocatic Dream. It is a story about a megalomaniac feline who decides to conquer the world of man.
